It’s no secret that food scarcity is a growing, global issue. While there are so many factors for why food scarcity is happening, a big reason is due to lack of growable land. Urbanization and climate change have reduced the amount of land usable for growing food. Enter custom food labs.
The popularity of lab grown foods has skyrocketed. From lab grown meat, to meat alternatives, to indoor farms, lab grown food is solidifying its place in the future of food consumption.
“But, Lab Grown Food is DANGEROUS!!”
Don’t worry. Lab grown food isn’t as nefarious as your think. Lab grown food is actually doing a lot of good for our environment and for people.
For starters, it allows food to be grown in places where it couldn’t grow naturally. Areas that suffer under poor soil conditions, harsh climates, or are extremely urbanized can now produce their own food. Since it’s indoors, there are less pesticides and other hazardous byproducts of agriculture. Food can be genetically modified to withstand harsher climates or ward off insects – also reducing the need for harmful pesticides.
In addition to being good for the environment, lab grown food helps so many people. Lab grown food gets to solve problems. Food can be grown and genetically modified to aid underserved areas. For example, areas suffering with desertification can still have access to grains that can no longer grow in their sandy soil.
