At OnePointe Solutions, we manufacture, sell, and install biosafety cabinets for all level of CDC and WHO designated biosafety labs. Working closely with our clients, we help them select the perfect configuration, materials, and accessories for their unique needs, and custom build biosafety cabinets to match their specifications.
For entire biosafety labs, we provide the same service, working closely with every level of BSL to choose solutions that help maintain lab cleanliness and material safe handling. Whether you need a set of biosafety cabinets or an entire biosafety lab built out, we can be your sole laboratory planning and construction partner.
Biosafety Cabinets and Clean Benches
There are 4 main types of biological safety enclosure found in modern laboratories:
- Clean Benches
- Class I BSC
- Class II BSC
- Class III BSC
All of our laminar flow cabinets and biosafety cabinets are manufactured in America, and are subject to the full range of testing required for compliant biosafety furniture. We are a member of SEFA, and have all of our stainless steel manufactured in house and approved by NSF standards.
Our range of lab cabinets include acid storage, flammable cabinets, chemical storage, biosafety equipment, and state of the art instrumentation and fume extraction equipment. In addition to BSL furniture, we also manufacture and install standard lab casework, lab benches, and a wide range of lab furniture options.
Biosafety Cabinet Materials
With OnePointe Solutions, you have the option to customize every inch of your biosafety cabinets, from material to color and shape. Once you decide on your ideal configuration, we will help you choose the perfect biosafety casework material for your specific application.
In biosafety labs, biosafety storage that is resistant to chemicals, heat, water, and bacterial buildup is most important. Surfaces should be smooth, non-porous, seamless, and hardy to regular cleanings and exposure to disinfectants.
Some of the worksurface materials we offer at OnePointe Solutions for laminar flow and airflow cabinets include:
- Epoxy Resin
- Phenolic Resin
- Stainless Steel
Biosafety Cabinets vs. Fume Hoods
A vital tool in most biosafety level 3 and 4 labs, fume hoods help to provide added environmental protection from the spread of airborne diseases, pathogens, and biological agents. Creating an isolated environment designed to contain potentially harmful or hazardous materials during the phases of research, fume hoods provide vital protection to laboratory and facility personnel.
Fume hoods use advanced filtering systems to remove contaminants and fumes from the air while expelling fresh, clean air into the working environment.
In biosafety labs, biosafety hoods (or biosafety cabinets) are used to contain biological agents and prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses, like the coronavirus/COVID-19. Biosafety hoods use high-efficiency particulate air filters to clean and purify the air, then spit clean air back into the working environment to ensure the health and safety of lab personnel.
In BSL-4 labs, biosafety hoods must be used during the handling of all materials due to the hazardous and lethal nature of biological agents being handled in these facilities. Fume and biosafety hoods remove fumes, foul odors, airborne pathogens, dust, debris, and pollutants from the air, allowing for the safe and convenient handling of what would otherwise be lethal biological materials.
Biological Safety Furniture
Regardless of which biosafety level your lab belongs to, ease of decontamination for biosafety cabinets and lab benches is absolutely critical. Carpets and soft curtains are not permitted in biosafety labs due to their tendency to collect and hold airborne pathogens and biological agents.
Similarly, choosing the wrong surface for your biosafety lab tables or work tops can result in the collection of contaminants and biological agents.
There are a variety of different names these types of furniture are called: laminar hood, laminar flow bench, clean room bench, bsc flow hood. If any of these are specified by companies like Erlab or Labconco, we can supply and install this equipment from your specified manufacturer.
In a biosafety lab setting, you need furniture that is resistant to heat, organic compounds, acids, and so on. Wood, laminate, and similar porous materials provide plenty of space for harmful pathogens to take up residence, and make the job of decontaminating lab surfaces near impossible.
At OnePointe Solutions, we offer custom furniture design to all our clients, offering them the chance to create the perfect solution for their lab’s needs.
